Storm Squeeze Past Centurion Women in Overtime 70-65

By Scott Lemon, Yellowstone Christian College SID

NEW TOWN, N.D. — A costly turnover late in overtime allowed the Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (formerly known as Fort Berthold College) Storm to squeeze past the Yellowstone Christian College Centurions 70-65 on Saturday afternoon in New Town, N.D.

Tayler Calf Boss Ribs banked home a clutch three-pointer from the right wing with 1.3 seconds to go in regulation to tie the game at 59, setting up the first overtime scenario for the Centurions this season. The teams traded baskets throughout the extra frame. The Storm, courtesy of great ball movement, freed up a player in the left corner, and she converted, giving the Storm a 68-65 lead with 4.4 seconds to go. After a Yellowstone timeout, a bad inbounds pass led to a fast-break layup for NHSC, icing the game.

Calf Boss Ribs and Sharnell Thomas paced the Centurions' offense with a pair of 15-point efforts. Thomas also dished out four assists. Zhane Akeya scored a career-high 13 points and added four assists. Leonardine John kept pace with her double-digit season average with 12 points, all coming from three-point land. Deandra Cunningham nearly picked up her first double-double in a Centurion uniform with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Centurions will face the Lady Bison of Salish Kootenai College on Friday and Saturday, with both games being played at The Shrine Auditorium. For more information about the season and for full game recaps, visit
