Centurions Roll Over Bravehearts 102-75

By Scott Lemon, Yellowstone Christian SID

KYLE, S.D. — The Yellowstone Christian College Centurions found their shooting touch on the road, shooting 53% from the floor to cruise to 102-75 victory over the Oglala Lakota College Bravehearts on Friday night in Kyle, S.D.

Taylan Barrett and Abraham Nyok used their size to make an impact in the game early, combining for 22 of the teams 54 first half points. The Centurions also found a spark from the bench, as freshman Vallen Spang added 12 points of his own in the first 20 minutes of play.

However, the Bravehearts were able to keep pace in the first half, largely due to the incredible play of freshman wingman Carl Swallow. The six-foot-two sharpshooter racked up 27 points in the first half, including cashing in on 5-of-9 attempts from three-point land and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Unfortunately, Swallow was forced to leave early in the second half with an injury.

With Swallow having to sit out the remainder of the ballgame, the Bravehearts were unable to reignite their rhythm offensively, as the Centurions steadily build their lead in the second half.

The Centurions saw a very balanced scoring attack on Friday night, with every player on the roster reaching the scoring column. Nyok led the way with 19 points and three assists. Aaron Munday-Rashid chalked up 17 points and three steals. Barrett and Spang both came off the bench for 14 points each. Aleksandar Brankovic and Fabricio Daher Valdivia each recorded ten points apiece. Barrett and Stefan Tellis lead all players with five steals each.

Dallas Tobacco and James Pine did their best to fill in the offensive void left by Swallow, recording 14 and 13 points respectively. Pine also dominated the glass, pulling down 14 boards and added four assists for a very well-rounded game. However, no other player scored in double-figures, creating a deficit that was just too deep to climb out of.

The Centurions and Bravehearts will meet again on Saturday afternoon, with tip scheduled for 3:00 p.m. For more information on the season and for full game recaps, visit
