Winning Streak Ends At Eight In Loss To Red-Hot Pronghorns

By Scott Lemon, Yellowstone Christian SID

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Yellowstone Christian College Centurions ran into a red-hot Gillette College Pronghorn squad, and the Pronghorns snapped the Centurions’ eight-game winning streak with an 84-60 final score on Tuesday night in Billings.

Since Thanksgiving, Gillette has won 14 of 17 ballgames, carrying that momentum into Tuesday’s game. The game was close throughout the first quarter, but the depth of the Pronghorns showed itself to be the difference as Gillette began to slowly extend their lead.

The Centurions played without their two top scorers on Tuesday night, Tayler Brankovic and Leonardine John, both out with injuries. Freshman Paige Gregory took it on herself to carry the team, scoring a career-high 26 points and pulling down four boards. Sharnell Thomas joined her in double-digits with 10 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Thomas and Tiani Alvarez each dished out five assists in the game as well.

Freshman Dawnee Keckler had herself a day for Gillette, pouring in a game-high 29 points. Julia Robarge came off the bench for 13 points and freshman guard Rickie Engesser scored 11 points.

Tuesday marked the end of the season for Yellowstone Christian, finishing with a respectable 10-13 record, including their forfeit win over Fort Peck that will be awarded on Friday. A full season recap will be available for the women’s season by Friday on www.gocenturions.com.
