Reed Named 1st Team All-Region

BILLINGS, MT – Even during these trying times, there is always a reason to celebrate. For our Yellowstone Christian College Centurions, there are THREE reasons to celebrate as both programs have players deserving recognition for their accomplishments. For our Women's Basketball Program, outstanding sophomore guard/forward, Hanna Hayes has been named NCCAA DI West All-Region Team. Across the way to our Men's Basketball Program, two of our players have received honors in the NCCAA DI All-Region Team; redshirt freshman guard Derrian Reed named NCCAA DI West 1st Team All-Region Team, and Devin Jones named NCCAA DI West 2nd Team All-Region. “Hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and leadership…each of these individuals possess these qualities,” Head Men's Basketball Coach Jamil Santiel commented. "Hanna Hayes is one those players that is constantly learning and striving to become better. Her ability to play every position on the court, offensively and defensively, was a huge part of the women’s success this year. And for my ‘one-two combo’ Dev and Reed…man, both of these players are exceptional and appreciated. Reed is a phenomenal player with uncanny scoring ability. Devin is a remarkable player with amazing vision and passing ability. Each of these players value to the team does not stop on the court, as they are all leaders off the court. I am extremely happy for these three individuals, as this award barely scratches the surface of their accomplishments to come.”

HAYES – Hanna Hayes ranks 2nd in the NCCAA DI for scoring this year, leading the Lady Centurions with 23.5 points per game: shooting 41% from the field and 71% from the line. Defensively, Hayes was a force on the boards as she averaged 7.7 rebounds and racked up 1.8 steals per game. Furthermore, Hayes set a new school record for most points scored in a single game at 42 points. Hayes helped led her team to the NCCAA DI National Tournament last year, giving them their first appearance in school history. She is definitely one of the players to keep an eye on in the years to come. Congratulations Hanna Hayes!

REED – Derrian Reed was firing on all cylinders as the Centurions’ leading scorer this season, ranking 7th in the NCCAA DI for scoring with 22.1 points per game: shooting 44% from the field, 40% from deep, and 80% from the line. Not only was Reed’s offensive ability threat enough for opponents, ranking 5th in 3-point field goals (3.5 made per game) and 12th in assist (4.0 assist per game), but his defensive presence caused chaos for opponents as well—contributing just under 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Reed is an important piece to the Centurions’ history making season, as he helped lead YCC to their first ever Regional appearance and advancing to the final round of the NDAG Regional Tournament. Congratulations D.Reed! Well deserved!

JONES – Devin Jones was the second leading scorer for the Centurions, averaging 16.7 points per game this season. Jones is the Floor General of the team, leading the team in several ways that do not show up on the box scores. On the court, Jones hit the century mark with 105 assists in a single season—setting the school record as well as ranking 11th in the NCCAA DI for assist (4.3 per game). In addition, Jones also ties the school record for most points scored in a single game at 41 points: shooting 60% from the field (15-25), 50% from 3-point (5-10), and 100% from the line (6-6). Off the court, Jones exemplifies the meaning of a student-athlete by maintaining a 3.5 grade point average. Jones’ leadership and dedication, on and off the court, helped lead the Centurions to the finals of the NDAG Regional Tournament—again, making school history. Congratulations Dev! This award is well deserved!
